I, Ervyn Morryés of the Black Mountain clan, know all about control.
As the only fair-haired Dark Elf in the Highlands, I had to learn to control my fists and my temper in the face of derision.
To become the best archer amongst my peers, I had to learn to control my breathing and my movements.
But the day the half-breed called Lochan Féyes arrived at the training camp, my discipline faltered. Because—sweet gods—when I am around that aloof, blue-eyed assassin, my need is uncontrollable.

The Mutt An Order Series Short Story The Order Book 1 edition by Kasia Bacon Literature Fiction eBooks

This was a short fun read. Set up was good. Dark brooding object of desire. Unrequited love. All the makings of steamy awesomeness. The ending was good too. The characters were easy to understand and follow. Only thing is that it just didn't leap off the pages. It felt like closer to the end it just sorta ended. It didn't have enough info to read like a good short story. Maybe five or so more pages in the middle. I just didn't quite connect with the object of desire in this book or fall in line with the relationship that begun. Basically, there wasn't enough begin with it. It just sorta happened and I didn't have enough time to get on board and invested in the romance. Even though I knew it was coming. There was no yeah! and awww, and when's the next kiss. They just didn't have enough time together to set me up for how this will pan out in the next instalment. Especially with a pretty perfect ending/cliffhanger to the short. Other than that, this is a light and entertaining read and if you want to kill an hour or two of your time, and actually enjoy said time, I recommend this book,

The Mutt An Order Series Short Story The Order Book 1 edition by Kasia Bacon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I thoroughly enjoyed this prequel short. I was hooked from the first paragraph. I feel like we got a generous overview of E's character and I look forward to learning more about L. He is a mystery right now, particularly what changed his mind and caused him to interact with E after icing him out for so long. However, I don't believe this detracted from the story, quite a lot of world building was in it for being a short.
What a lovely story! The writing was beautiful. And I really like the cover.

I love to read short stories that teasingly introduce me to characters in an upcoming series. And I particularly enjoy when a short story feels complete in and of itself. The Mutt successfully did both of these things--I want to read more and now have a strong sense of the characters and the world that Kasia Bacon has created.

I'm intrigued by both of the main characters. The hints at what is to come definitely have me looking forward to the next installment.
This is the first part of a serial (?); I'm hoping that it will not be dragged out. A sensual m/m tale of elves training in an elf army. Bacon writes beautifully.
3.5 stars.
This was a short quick read that I wished was longer. Ervyn Morryés of the Black Mountain clan, know all about control. As the only fair-haired Dark Elf in the Highlands, I had to learn to control my fists and my temper in the face of derision. When half-breed Lochan Féyes arrived at the training camp he can't take his eyes off him. This book was an introduction to a new series too me. I liked both the MC Ervyn and Lochan have a lot of chemistry. I also liked the secondary characters of the order. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This was a fantastic short read. It looks to be a prequel to a fantasy series in the Elven/human world.

The main characters are Ervyn and Lochan who are elves (Lochan is half-Elven) training to be in the Queen's army. It was great being in Ervyn's head hearing his raw feelings for Lochan. It's clear Ervyn and Lochan's relationship was built from respect and attraction for one another since the very beginning. This is a creative, fresh and sexy read with some humorous lines.

The author is a very talented writer with her descriptive words that paints a fantasy world for her readers.

I'm am looking forward to reading this series when it becomes available.
What a fantastic little read. And I’m not using fantastic because of the genre (this is about elves, yes, but this could be any place in the world, an atemporal society populated with warriors—hot, gorgeous and funny long haired warriors, to be more specific—) but I’m using the word because this was fabulous, a beautifully written short, a love story between a mutt and a Highlander, about their beginning, their first kiss and touches and the way the blonde `Dark Elf’ (what a nice paradox, eh?) will do anything to be with the powerful half breed.

42 pages... and still Kasia Bacon manages to deliver a detailed and attractive universe with beautiful words and with a weird gift that I’ve been noticing in her work she can transmit in short stories more than some full length books can.

Highly recommend! and not just for fantasy fans I really believe this universe could work for anyone.
This is a great introduction to the series—I get that it’s short and there’s not a lot of time to get to know the characters as closely as some might like, but this story serves as an introduction, and is not meant to give you everything up front.

What this story did really well was to get me hooked to want to continue on with the series as it continues. The characters and the world in which they dwell have really piqued my interest, and have made me want more…which is exactly what this book is supposed to do. Did I want it to be longer? Hell yes! Right now I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that there won’t be too much time between releases because I really want to get to know these characters better.

Ervyn and Lochan are amazing together, and their chemistry is quite obvious. The moment I finished reading this…no, even before then…I knew I would be following this series because I NEED more of these two. Even with the short length of this story, there’s plenty packed into its pages, and I think most fantasy romance fans will get hooked just like I did. Know that there’s more to come, and it should be quite a ride!

5 stars for The Mutt, and I highly recommend this to M/M fantasy romance fans. Be prepared to hang in for shorter length installments for the series, but with this author’s writing I’m pretty confident it will definitely be worth it. There’s a bit of naughty, so this story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.
